Password Cracking and Analysis!

Let's talk about passwords. We'll take a look at how to crack them, things to look for, tips, tricks for using hashcat. We'll also talk about the passwords our users choose when given a set of rules. How should we create our password policy in a way that will make the enterprise more secure against password guessing and cracking.
We'll also be looking for presenters for future meetings, so if you got something, offer it up!

Interactive Fiction at PVD Geeks

The Interactive Fiction Technology Foundation (IFTF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation founded in 2016. It supports technologies and services that enable the ongoing play, creation, and study of interactive fiction (IF), which we broadly define as text-centric digital games and related work. This includes games in the style of classic text adventures, more experimental hypertext work, and everything in between and beyond.

At this month's Providence Geeks, IFTF's co-founder and current president, Jason McIntosh, provides a general introduction to IFTF, its public-service programs, and the various opportunities it offers for public participation, including the IF Archive, a 25-year-old repository of collected and curated digital art; the Annual IF Competition, the world's oldest ongoing online independent game festival; Twine, a toolkit for creating dynamic hypertexts; and more!

PLEASE NOTE:

We'll have some demos of IF that you can try out, and please come a little early (by 5:30) to join a group playthrough of Admiral Jota’s “Lost Pig”, which won the IF Competition in 2007.

AS220's restaurant is undergoing renovations, so the restaurant will not be open. There will be a pop-up bar, though. Please feel free to eat before you arrive, or bring your own food and eat there. There are lots of takeout/delivery options downtown.

For the first time, Drupal Providence will be participating in the Drupal Global Contribution Weekend. This is a weekend where Drupalists gather for one weekend around the world solving issues in the Drupal issue queue.

Everyone is welcome; You do not need to be a developer to participate, non-technical folks can work on improving documentation on Drupal.org. If you have built a site in Drupal, you can contribute. We will split into groups and work on Drupal core issues. Bring your laptop! For new folks: you can get a head start also by making an account on Drupal.org, getting some contribution tools, and developers can install git before coming and git clone Drupal 8 core.

Instructions for cloning Drupal 8 core with git: https://www.drupal.org/project/drupal/git-instructions

We will be communicating with the Drupal community over the Drupal slack channel. Make sure to create an account following the instructions here: https://www.drupal.org/slack
