Drupal Providence

DrupalPVD Meetup

Our monthly Drupal Providence Meetup is coming up! This year we’re introducing a NEW format featuring a Module of the Month series and Tip of the Month. Join us as we level up at the Drupal PVD Meetup each month beginning at 6 pm, and bring a friend!

The NEW general format goes something like this:

6:30 pm - Module of the Month

Have you mastered a Module and want to demo it for the group? Is there a Module you want to learn more about that we can present? Let us know. Each month we will review/demo a module to kick off the meeting. Stay tuned for this month’s Module!

6:45 pm - Tip of the Month

Each month we will have a helpful tech tip (not necessarily always Drupal) to improve the way you build sites. We would love some group participation so if you have a tip to share, let us know and we’ll give you the floor.

7:00 pm – Feature Presentation

This month, Drupal PVD will feature Jason Pamental from Isovera talking about Pattern Lab in Drupal 8. There are a few ways to get a pattern library in your Drupal theme, and even several options to use Pattern Lab specifically. We’ll take a look at Isovera’s ‘IceCream’ starter theme, and how it’s been put in use on projects, including BostonDynamics.com (and hey, everything is better with robots, right?). This look at design systems, Pattern Lab, and Drupal 8 should give you lots to think about when you start your next D8 project.

7:30 pm (or so) - Networking and Social Time

Networking and one-on-one Q&A are valuable aspects of the meetup. Do you have an issue that’s stumping you? Let us know anytime and we can connect you with someone who can help, or even make it a topic at the next meetup.

Flutter: Build Beautiful Native Apps in Record Time

Over the last few years, many solutions have come out for helping with Cross-Platform Mobile development. There are many options out there today from Ionic, Framework7, React Native, NativeScript, and Xamarin. Now there is another option, Flutter. Flutter is developed by Google and is in their last preview version before going to a 1.0 release.

Flutter was inspired by React and React Native but has taken a different approach to Cross-Platform Mobile development. It uses the Dart Language and Skia. It is open source and currently supports IOS and Android. Although it is in a preview release, it’s been used for production apps like Google Ads, Alibaba, and Hamilton Musical.

In this presentation, Scott Cornell of Trilix (trilixtech.com) will review Flutter's architecture and walk thru the steps to build a simple mobile application.

Learn With OSMM: Needlefelted Halloween Pic

Get that last minute Halloween decor taken care of - learn to needlefelt a Halloween landscape!

Needlefelting is the process of using a barbed needle to interlock wool fibers, allowing creation of either 2D or 3D shapes. In this class, you'll learn to needlefelt in 2D by creating a Halloween landscape.

Ages 10 to adult are welcome for the class. The needles are very sharp - younger participants must have an adult present, and patience and an awareness of tool safety is important.

We have beautiful wool to work with, some donated by our friends at Old Slater Mill Association and M. Dursin & Sons, Inc.!

Tickets are $15 and available via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/learn-with-osmm-needlefelted-halloween-pic-tickets-51494622803?ref=estw
