Learn with OSMM: Needlefelted Snowmen!

Get into the Holiday spirit by needlefelting your very own snowman!

Needlefelting is the process of using a barbed needle to interlock wool fibers, allowing creation of either 2 or 3D shapes. In this class, you'll learn to needlefelt a snowman and some fun accessories.

Ages 10 to adult are welcome for the class. The needles are very sharp - younger participants must have an adult present, and patience and an awareness of tool safety is important.

Tickets are $10 per person in advance through Eventbrite, or $12 at the door.

Ocean State Maker Mill

Synth Saturday!

Ocean State Maker Mill is hosting our December synthesizer meetup from noon until 6:00 PM on Saturday December 16 in Pawtucket, RI. Whether you’re an experienced electronic musician, or are just curious about what this whole ‘modular synthesis/Eurorack’ thing is about, this is the perfect chance to gather with fellow New England synth nerds. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own synths, modules and racks. Headphones are encouraged, but we’ll also have a PA system available for a wider audio experience. Anyone is welcome to perform — if you want to volunteer ahead of time, we’ll help publicize your performance!

Ocean State Maker Mill is a membership-run organization with the mission of helping encourage the usage of arts, engineering, and science to help make ideas become reality. We provide a workshop for our members to build their dreams, and an educational space for the greater New England community to learn new skills. We are located at 80 Fountain Street in Pawtucket, RI.

Followup to our Kickoff

Thanks to everyone who came out to the last meetup! I think that we got off to a great start, and I'm excited for the next one.

Last meetup, we met with some of the representatives of the Secretary of State's office (sadly, Nellie Gorbea was unable to attend), and we discussed picking one of the four projects that their office thought would be a) easy to accomplish, and b) of significant value.

We weren't able to pick one of those projects last time, but we're hoping to get to it this time.  In addition, I think we should all bring our own goals for this group to the meeting and spend some time talking about what we want this organization to become.

Hope to see you all there on the 30th, and I hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving!

DrupalPVD Meetup

Our monthly Drupal Providence Meetup is coming up! This year we’re introducing a NEW format featuring a Module of the Month series and Tip of the Month. Join us as we level up at the Drupal PVD Meetup each month beginning at 6 pm, and bring a friend!

The NEW general format goes something like this:

6:30 pm - Module of the Month

Have you mastered a Module and want to demo it for the group? Is there a Module you want to learn more about that we can present? Let us know. Each month we will review/demo a module to kick off the meeting. Stay tuned for this month’s Module!

6:45 pm - Tip of the Month

Each month we will have a helpful tech tip (not necessarily always Drupal) to improve the way you build sites. We would love some group participation so if you have a tip to share, let us know and we’ll give you the floor.

7:00 pm – Feature Presentation

This month, Drupal PVD's will feature a speaker talking about the latest in the world of Drupal.

7:30 pm (or so) - Networking and Social Time

Networking and one-on-one Q&A are valuable aspects of the meetup. Do you have an issue that’s stumping you? Let us know anytime and we can connect you with someone who can help, or even make it a topic at the next meetup.

Code for America

Meet the Secretary of State at the State House Library!

Hi all!

Meetup recently sent me an email asking if I wanted to take over as the organizer of this group, and I figured I'd say yes. This was a group that I really wanted to take part in back when it was founded in 2014, but I wasn't really able to devote the time to it back then. It seems like there were some innovative projects that were started by the group, but that it lost steam somewhere along the way and has fallen by the wayside.

So, I'm hoping that we can give this another go.

I arranged a meeting with the Secretary of State the other day and explained the purpose of the group and how I think our group can work together with the Secretary of State's office to help solve problems here in the Ocean State. Secretary Gorbea is excited about the possibilities for this group, and she'll be in attendance as we kickoff the next chapter of Code for America here in Rhode Island.

I'm hoping that we can have the state identify some high value projects that they'd love to get to, but won't ever be able to because they don't have the resources to accomplish them. We can talk more about this at the meetup, and decide on next steps for the organization.

Oh, and beer and snacks will be served! So, free beer, a chance to hang out in the amazing State House Library, and you get to talk about code and civic hacking. What more do you want?

Hope to see you all soon!
