Synth Saturday at OSMM!

Ocean State Maker Mill is happy to host the first Synth Saturday meetup at our newly-expanded makerspace in Pawtucket, RI. Whether you’re an experienced knob-twiddler, or are just curious about what this whole ‘modular synthesis’ thing is about, this is the perfect chance to gather with fellow New England synth nerds. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own synths, modules and racks. Headphones are encouraged, but we’ll also have a PA system available for a wider audio experience.

Drupal Providence

DrupalPVD Meetup

Our monthly Drupal Providence Meetup is coming up! This year we’re introducing a NEW format featuring a Module of the Month series and Tip of the Month. Join us as we level up at the Drupal PVD Meetup each month beginning at 6 pm, and bring a friend!

The NEW general format goes something like this:

6:30 pm - Module of the Month

Have you mastered a Module and want to demo it for the group? Is there a Module you want to learn more about that we can present? Let us know. Each month we will review/demo a module to kick off the meeting. Stay tuned for this month’s Module!

6:45 pm - Tip of the Month

Each month we will have a helpful tech tip (not necessarily always Drupal) to improve the way you build sites. We would love some group participation so if you have a tip to share, let us know and we’ll give you the floor.

7:00 pm – Feature Presentation

This month, Drupal PVD's will feature a speaker talking about the latest in the world of Drupal.

7:30 pm (or so) - Networking and Social Time

Networking and one-on-one Q&A are valuable aspects of the meetup. Do you have an issue that’s stumping you? Let us know anytime and we can connect you with someone who can help, or even make it a topic at the next meetup.

Providence Geeks

March 2017 Providence Geeks

TechHire Rhode Island is a network that connects employers seeking IT talent with Rhode Islanders who possess unique backgrounds and can get the job done. At the March 15 Providence Geeks, TechHireRI Director Damian Ewens will join us to talk about their platform, Techhire.Careers, which lets entry-level software developers (more roles coming soon!) demonstrate their skills regardless of how they acquired their training. Did you know that GE Digital recently hired 1/3 of their local staff through TechHireRI and their training partnerships? Damian will update us on this and more progress in implementing a state-wide effort to place 2,000 underrepresented and overlooked Rhode Island jobseekers into in-demand IT jobs by 2020. He'll also describe how he is working with key state and national partners to keep TechHireRI positioned as Opportunity@Work’s learning lab and scalable, national model for the broader TechHire movement that is now in 71 other communities across the United States. Observer Driven Development with Elixir (and Omid!)

A couple of months ago Omid Bachari gave us the low down on Elixir, which he used to build upon the RIPTA API. Omid is back and this time he's got a pretty big announcement.

Everyone is welcome, whether you've dabbled in Elixir or not. What's more, we'll have DISCOUNT CODES for anyone interested in escaping the New England cold and going to Orlando in March!

Pizza and drinks, as always. See you there!

P.S. If anyone has any suggestions for presentation topics, or ideas for our next big symposium (remember the React Symposium last July?) shoot me a message! I'd love to hear your thoughts.
