DrupalPVD Meetup

Our monthly Drupal Providence Meetup is coming up! This year we’re introducing a NEW format featuring a Module of the Month series and Tip of the Month. Join us as we level up at the Drupal PVD Meetup each month beginning at 6 pm, and bring a friend!

The NEW general format goes something like this:

6:30 pm - Module of the Month

Have you mastered a Module and want to demo it for the group? Is there a Module you want to learn more about that we can present? Let us know. Each month we will review/demo a module to kick off the meeting. Stay tuned for this month’s Module!

6:45 pm - Tip of the Month

Each month we will have a helpful tech tip (not necessarily always Drupal) to improve the way you build sites. We would love some group participation so if you have a tip to share, let us know and we’ll give you the floor.

7:00 pm – Feature Presentation

This month, Drupal PVD's will feature a speaker talking about the latest in the world of Drupal.

7:30 pm (or so) - Networking and Social Time

Networking and one-on-one Q&A are valuable aspects of the meetup. Do you have an issue that’s stumping you? Let us know anytime and we can connect you with someone who can help, or even make it a topic at the next meetup.

April PVDGeeks + RIVR - WebXR for Everyone.

Rhode Island Virtual Reality (RIVR) presents Fasility in partnership with Providence Geeks WebXR is the combination of Virtual and Augmented reality inside a Web browser. Most people think of Virtual Reality as something you use in an Oculus or Vive headset, and Augmented Reality as something you do with a phone or tablet. Thanks to teams at Mozilla, Google, and Microsoft collaborating on the WebVR standard, everything we love about websites now applies to Virtual and Augmented Reality - desktop and mobile playback, out of box networking, instant installation, accessibility, and the freedom to innovate outside the App stores. RIVR is pleased to bring RISD alum and Fasility co-founder Chris Lowery to discuss WebXR, the possibilities and how to get started. Fasility's Chris Lowery (BFA RISD 1994) is a user experience designer and programmer. Over the past two years, he has created dozens of innovative projects with Mozilla's A-Frame WebVR framework. Fasility's BeBlock is a WebXR viewer that lets you play with thousands of digital objects in a Virtual or Augmented environment. BeBlock integrates with Google Blocks, a free environment for creating models in VR. He loves to teach developers how much VR and AR they can create with just a few lines of HTML and JavaScript.

RI Ruby Group -- Come on in, the water is fine!

• What we'll do
It's about time! I'll talk about some highlights from RubyConf, and we'll be joined by John Sawers from Boston to talk about integrating with a new API -- the Emotional API.

"Being a good developer isn't just about slinging code; we're part of a community. Interacting with others in a community means feelings are involved. But feelings are messy and uncomfortable, so why can't you just ignore them? Because emotional skills are critical for working well on a team, and for writing code every day. In this talk you’ll learn how emotions are affecting you by modeling them as an API and looking at the code."

Other topics are welcome, so let me know if you'd like to share something as well.

Food and beverage will be provided. Let's chat!
