Code & Coffee (Bring Laptop!)

Do you like coding with friends? Like really great coffee? Come out to GDI's Code & Coffee!

Code and Coffee is an opportunity for you to work on your own projects, continue practicing what you've been learning, and meet others who share your interests. Bring your laptop, your recent projects, and your programming problems and questions.

This is also a great event for first time attendees who just want to socialize or find out more about coding in general. We're very friendly and would love to have you join us. :)

If you have a project idea and some skills, but haven’t attended a GDI event yet? Want to focus on helping others with their projects? You're welcome too!

Don't worry if you don't have a project already started. This could be an opportunity to find one.

As a group, we’ll hold each other accountable for completing our projects, and provide on-going support and feedback.

We know that it can be intimidating to come to a meet-up when you don't know anyone, so please feel free to reach out if you have any questions! : )

Feel free to come by for the whole thing or drop in when you have time.

Don't forget to bring your laptop and charger if you have one!

All attendees are expected to abide by the Girl Develop It code of conduct

At the September Providence Geeks, Scott Cornell, Lead Architect for Trilix, an application development and systems integrator, will join us to share the Trilix story. Scott will talk about how Trilix helps companies reach a heightened level of workplace excellence with technology as an accelerator. Scott has more than 20 years of development experience, with specific experience in full-stack development and business application design. In his talk, he'll spend some time on the state of mobile cross-platform development tools, from cross-platform frameworks for mobile platforms (IOS, Android, UWP) to alternatives to native tools like Objective-C/Swift and Java/Kotlin. You'll learn about Framework7, Flutter, Xamarin, NativeScript, React Native and more.

The event itself is FREE! Beverages and food are for sale at AS220’s excellent bar and restaurant. Doors open at 5:30pm. Socializing, eating and drinking up until the 15-minute presentation/Q&A around 6:30. Afterwards, back to socializing, eating, drinking. It’s totally casual. Wear whatever, bring whomever, arrive and take off whenever! And don’t worry about eating or not – come famished or full – eating is optional.

DrupalPVD Meetup

Our monthly Drupal Providence Meetup is coming up! This year we’re introducing a NEW format featuring a Module of the Month series and Tip of the Month. Join us as we level up at the Drupal PVD Meetup each month beginning at 6 pm, and bring a friend!

The NEW general format goes something like this:

6:30 pm - Module of the Month

Have you mastered a Module and want to demo it for the group? Is there a Module you want to learn more about that we can present? Let us know. Each month we will review/demo a module to kick off the meeting. Stay tuned for this month’s Module!

6:45 pm - Tip of the Month

Each month we will have a helpful tech tip (not necessarily always Drupal) to improve the way you build sites. We would love some group participation so if you have a tip to share, let us know and we’ll give you the floor.

7:00 pm – Feature Presentation

This month, Drupal PVD's will feature a speaker talking about the latest in the world of Drupal.

7:30 pm (or so) - Networking and Social Time

Networking and one-on-one Q&A are valuable aspects of the meetup. Do you have an issue that’s stumping you? Let us know anytime and we can connect you with someone who can help, or even make it a topic at the next meetup.

Server-Side Rendering with Docker - Owen Buckley, The Greenhouse I/O

Server-Side Rendering can be a valuable technique for delivering great user experiences quickly and for improving SEO, even for Single Page Applications. However, even with all the great tools available for implementing SSR, there are still challenges around implementing it, in particular around operational overhead and general technical complexity, all of which can be daunting.

In this presentation, we’ll take a look at how Docker can help soften some of the thornier parts of implementing SSR, while maintaining great User Experiences (UX) and just as importantly, promoting good Developer Experiences (DX).
